Hateruma Island's M'shama

  1. Hateruma Island's M'shama

This event is held on the 14th day of the seventh month of the lunar calendar, during the period of Obon, in order to revere family ancestors and offer prayers for good harvest and safety.
Various performances, including dram, stick fight demonstration, classical comic theater and dance, are dedicated for gods. Because many islanders living outside the island visit their native island to reunite with their families and to take part in the festival, this day becomes the most spirited day of the year in the community.
